Dadaocheng Cisheng Temple (Mazu Temple)

A Mazu temple in Dadaocheng whose shady forecourt doubles as a local brunch spot, with long-running snack stalls lined up along the yard. Walking in costs nothing, and the small bowls at the stalls make it easy to eat alone.

How to visit, step by step
- Enter from Lane 49 of Bao'an Street. No ticket or booking is needed
- Walk through the hall quietly. Avoid standing right in front of the altar, and ask before photographing anyone who is praying
- Incense and donations are optional
- To eat, choose one stall, order and pay there, and sit at that stall's own tables. Bring cash, as card payment at the stalls is not confirmed
- Come before early afternoon if you want food: many stalls close long before the temple does
Don't miss: Look at the old stone pillars and carved roof, then have one small bowl at a stall, such as pork congee, Sishen herbal soup or pork-rib soup.
Best time to go alone: Late morning on a weekday, when the stalls are open and the temple is calm.
