How to order, step by step

  1. Walk into Lane 14 off Kaifeng Street Section 1. The shop is at No. 2, in a very narrow alley
  2. At lunchtime there is often a line outside. Wait until staff show you to a seat
  3. Choose clear-broth (清燉) or red-braised (紅燒) beef noodles and tell staff, or point at the menu
  4. Pay in cash. There is no restroom inside, so plan ahead
What to order solo: One bowl of beef noodles. Pick the clear broth for something lighter, or the red-braised broth for the classic spiced flavor. A bowl was NT$170 in 2023, so expect it to cost a little more now.
Best time to go alone: Weekday mid-morning or mid-afternoon (around 10:00-11:00 or 14:00-16:00). It closes at 18:00 and all day Sunday.
