Raohe Street Night Market

One of Taipei's best-known night markets: a single 600 m street running west from Ciyou Temple, right outside Songshan MRT Exit 5. A row of stalls runs down the middle with snack shops on both sides, so you walk down one side and back along the other. Nearly everything is sold in single portions, and a few stalls have their own seats.

How to order, step by step
- Take Songshan MRT Exit 5 and enter through the big lit gate beside Ciyou Temple
- Walk west down one side of the street and come back along the other - it is one straight lane
- Order one item at a time - single portions are normal
- Pay in cash and carry small notes
- Sit at a stall's own seats if it has them, or step aside to eat - try not to stand in front of other shops' doors
- For toilets, use Ciyou Temple (open until 22:30) or the MRT station
What to order solo: Start with a pepper bun at Fuzhou Shizu (福州世祖胡椒餅) just inside the east gate - about NT$65, cash, no seats. Then sit down for herbal pork rib soup at Chen Dong (陳董藥燉排骨, in front of No. 160, closed Tuesdays). For a takeaway snack, pick a few items at A Kuo Lu Wei (阿國滷味) beside the temple (closed Mondays).
Best time to go alone: 17:00-19:00 on a weekday. It is packed from about 19:00 to 22:00 and on Friday and Saturday nights, and many stalls close for a few days around Lunar New Year.
