Jinshan Old Street (Jinbaoli Street)

金山老街(金包里老街) · show this name to taxi drivers

Jinshan's old shopping street, running past Guang'an Temple right by the bus stop. Most food here is sold by the piece or the plate: duck by the temple, big taro balls, steamed buns and sweet potato desserts. It makes an easy half day on your own, and a free hot spring foot bath at the nearby Zhongshan Hot Spring Park lets you rest your legs.

How to visit, step by step

  1. Get off at the Jinshan District Office stop and walk into Jinbaoli Street. Walking the street is free
  2. Go between about 10:00 and 17:00. Most stalls open around 10:00, many close by 18:00, and some only open on weekends
  3. Eat as you go. Most snacks are sold one at a time, so carry cash for small stalls
  4. For a break, the free outdoor foot bath at Zhongshan Hot Spring Park (No. 3 Wenquan Road, 08:00-17:00) is right next to the old street. Bring a small towel to dry your feet
  5. Weekends are crowded. On a weekday, plan your bus back before the shops close
Don't miss: A plate or two at Jinbaoli Duck by Guang'an Temple, a bowl of big taro balls, and a soak in the free foot bath.
Best time to go alone: A weekday from late morning to mid-afternoon. Weekends are packed, and the street goes quiet after 18:00.
