New Pingxi Coal Mine Museum

A former coal mine in the hills above Shifen turned into a museum. Walk through a mock coal tunnel, see the hoist and the miners' bathhouse, and ride a small mine train along the old coal track. Tickets are sold to individuals, but the museum is a walk or a taxi ride from Shifen Station.

How to visit, step by step
- Get there from Shifen Station on foot (about 1.4 km, roughly 30 minutes with stairs and slopes) or by taxi. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays
- Buy a ticket at the ticket office before 16:00, the last entry. It was NT$200 per person in 2026, with the mine-train ride included
- Ask at the ticket office or the train stop when the next mine-train ride leaves. Rides run at set times
- Explore at your own pace: the hoist, the safety-training tunnel, the mock coal tunnel, the miners' bathhouse and the 80-year-old 'one-eyed' locomotive
- Don't count on an English guide. A translation app helps with the signs
Don't miss: The mine-train ride along the old coal track and the mock tunnel.
Best time to go alone: Wednesday to Friday, arriving by early afternoon so you have time before last entry at 16:00.
