How to order, step by step

  1. Find the stall at No. 18 Pingxi Street on Pingxi Old Street. It is closed on Mondays
  2. Join the line. It moves fairly quickly but gets longer on weekends
  3. Choose a grilled sausage on its own, or one tucked into a grilled sticky-rice sausage (big sausage wraps small sausage)
  4. Point at the toppings you want, such as pickled cabbage, ginger, mustard or cilantro
  5. Pay in cash and eat it standing or as you walk. There are no tables
What to order solo: One charcoal-grilled sausage topped with pickled cabbage or ginger makes a perfect snack. Get the sticky-rice version if you want something more filling. Check the posted price.
Best time to go alone: Late morning on a weekend or holiday, before the crowds peak. Pingxi Old Street is quiet on weekdays and some stalls close then, so check before you go.
