Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf & Lover's Bridge

淡水漁人碼頭・情人橋 · show this name to taxi drivers

A former fishing harbor at the mouth of the Tamsui River, now a waterfront promenade. Lover's Bridge, a white 196-meter footbridge across the harbor, is Tamsui's classic sunset spot, with the new Danjiang Bridge in view. It is free, open around the clock and easy to reach alone by bus, light rail or boat.

How to visit, step by step

  1. Get there by bus R26 from Tamsui Station, by the Danhai Light Rail (change at Hongshulin and take the Blue Coastal Line, not the Green Mountain Line), or by boat from Tamsui Ferry Pier
  2. Walk along the harbor promenade to Lover's Bridge. Crossing takes about 3 minutes
  3. Stay for the sunset, then head back by light rail or bus. If you plan to take a boat back, check the last sailing first
  4. Waterfront shops are usually open about 11:00-20:00
  5. In typhoons or strong wind the bridge and waterfront can close. Lover's Bridge also closed for a few days in March 2026 for a safety check
Don't miss: Sunset from Lover's Bridge, looking out over the river mouth toward Danjiang Bridge.
Best time to go alone: Sunset on a weekday. Weekend evenings and summer event nights are the busiest.
