How to visit, step by step

  1. Walk up Zhongshan Road from Xinbeitou Station through Beitou Park, about 15 minutes, to the Thermal Valley entrance
  2. Entry is free. It's open 09:00-17:00 and closed on Mondays
  3. At the entrance there's a hand-soaking basin where you can feel the spring water
  4. Follow the path around the lake. The water is close to boiling and strongly acidic, so stay behind the railings and never reach into the lake
  5. The sulfur smell is strong and the steam can be thick, so hold on to your phone near the railings
Don't miss: The milky green lake wrapped in steam. Cool, damp days give the thickest clouds of vapor.
Best time to go alone: A weekday morning, before tour groups arrive.
