How to visit, step by step

  1. From Jiantan Station (R15), cross Zhongshan N. Road to the trailhead beside the Jiantan bus stop
  2. Climb the stone steps, steep at first, to the Weifeng (Breeze) and North Eye platforms on the west side of the ridge, roughly 15-20 minutes up
  3. Carry on along the ridge to the Old Place (Laodifang) platform to watch planes over Songshan Airport. The whole trail is about 3.3 km and ends at Lane 165, Tongbei Street
  4. Some paths on the Yuanshan (Grand Hotel) side are closed while the new South Eye platform is built, due to finish in March 2027. Follow the detour signs at the closed sections
  5. Parts of the trail have no lights after dark. If you stay for sunset, carry a torch and go back the way you came rather than walking the whole ridge alone at night
  6. Bring water and insect repellent. The steps get slippery after rain
Don't miss: Sunset over the rivers from the North Eye or Weifeng platform, then planes landing at Songshan Airport from Old Place.
Best time to go alone: Start about 1.5 hours before sunset so you can head down while there is still some light. Early mornings are busy with local walkers.
