Taiwan's best-known university has a leafy main campus that anyone can walk around. Stroll Royal Palm Boulevard from the main gate, look into the small Fu Garden beside the gate and the Fu Bell, and step into the History Gallery in the 1929 former main library. Students fill the paths on bikes, so a solo visitor blends right in.

How to visit, step by step
- Take Gongguan MRT Exit 3 and walk to the main gate on Roosevelt Road
- Walk up Royal Palm Boulevard, the palm-lined avenue from the main gate
- The History Gallery is about 150 meters up the boulevard on the left, upstairs in the former main library. It is open Tuesday to Saturday, 09:00-17:00
- Fu Garden, a small wooded memorial garden for former president Fu Ssu-nien, is beside the main gate. Visit in daylight
- No food or drink inside the History Gallery, and video recording needs permission
- Campus guided tours are only for school and official groups, so explore on your own. Watch for bikes on the main roads
Don't miss: Royal Palm Boulevard, the Fu Bell, and the History Gallery's displays on the university's past in the restored reading hall of the old library.
Best time to go alone: A weekday morning from Tuesday to Saturday, when the History Gallery is open, then walk to Gongguan for lunch.
