Taiyi Milk King

臺一牛奶大王 · show this name to taxi drivers

An old-school dessert shop beside National Taiwan University, open since 1956. People drop in for little rice-ball tangyuan in hot red bean soup in winter and milk shaved ice in summer. Every dessert comes in a single bowl, so it is easy to stop by alone, and it stays open until 23:00.

How to order, step by step

  1. Order at the counter - the menu is in Chinese, so show the name of the dessert you want
  2. Choose a hot dessert (small tangyuan in red bean soup, or sesame or peanut tangyuan) or a shaved ice
  3. Pay in cash
  4. Sit at any free table and eat
What to order solo: Small tangyuan in hot red bean soup on a cool evening, or red bean milk shaved ice on a hot day (about NT$80 in October 2026). Fruit ices such as mango cost more.
Best time to go alone: Mid-afternoon or after 21:00 on a weekday. It gets very busy around the Winter Solstice and the Lantern Festival, when Taiwanese families eat tangyuan.
