How to visit, step by step
- From Ximen station (BL11/G12) Exit 1, cross Chengdu Road to the red-brick octagon
- Walk in freely. Entry to the building is free
- Look around the octagon hall on the ground floor, then walk into the cross-shaped hall behind it, where Taiwanese design brands sell their work
- The second-floor theater has its own ticketed shows, so check what's on before you go up
- On weekend afternoons and evenings, a creative market often sets up in the square in front
- The patio bars on the south side, a long-running LGBTQ+ nightlife area, keep later hours than the building
Don't miss: The 1908 brick octagon itself, then a slow browse through the Taiwanese design shops in the hall behind it.
Best time to go alone: A weekday afternoon is calm. Come on a weekend afternoon for the market, or in the evening if you want the patio bars.
