Xingtian Temple

行天宮 · show this name to taxi drivers

One of Taipei's busiest temples, dedicated to Lord Guan (Guan Gong). It stopped using incense burners and offering tables in 2014, so people pray with folded hands, and blue-robed volunteers perform shoujing, a short rite to calm a frightened spirit. Entry is free and you can watch daily temple life quietly on your own.

How to visit, step by step

  1. Take Exit 3 at Xingtian Temple station and use the underpass to cross Minquan East Road
  2. Walk in freely. There is no ticket, and you do not need to bring incense or offerings
  3. Pray with your palms together if you wish. Keep your voice low and do not stand in front of people praying
  4. Watch the shoujing blessing, done by volunteers in blue robes on most days from 11:20 to 18:30, with breaks
  5. The fortune-telling stalls in the underpass are private businesses with their own fees, separate from the temple
Don't miss: The blue-robed volunteers performing the shoujing blessing, and the main hall with its steady flow of local worshippers.
Best time to go alone: A weekday morning or mid-afternoon. Festival days are crowded.
