Yehliu Geopark

野柳地質公園 · show this name to taxi drivers

A cape of wind- and wave-carved sandstone on the north coast, home to the Queen's Head, Fairy's Shoe and Candle Rocks. You buy a single ticket and walk the coastal paths at your own pace, which makes it one of the easiest north coast sights to visit alone by bus from Taipei.

How to visit, step by step

  1. Buy a regular NT$120 ticket at the entrance, or show an online e-ticket to be scanned. Visitors 65 and over of any nationality pay NT$60
  2. Leave bags for free at the Visitor Center (08:00-16:00, lockers about 45 cm on each side). Free Wi-Fi is available there
  3. Walk Zones 1 and 2 for the Queen's Head, Fairy's Shoe and Candle Rocks (about 1 hour). The Zone 3 cape trail adds about 1.5 hours
  4. Stay on the marked paths and follow staff instructions. Wading and drones are not allowed
  5. In strong winter monsoon winds or high waves, parts of the seafront such as the Candle Rocks area can be closed, and the whole park closes when New Taipei suspends work for a typhoon. Check the park's notices before you set out
  6. Restrooms are at the ticket office, the Visitor Center and Zone 2. The Visitor Center does not exchange money, but there is an ATM at a nearby convenience store
Don't miss: The Queen's Head and the rock formations around it in Zones 1 and 2, then the quieter Zone 3 trail out toward the tip of the cape if you have time.
Best time to go alone: Arrive at the 08:00 opening on a weekday, before most tour groups. The paths are exposed, so bring sun and rain protection.
