Gongguan Night Market

A small student night market right outside Gongguan MRT, near National Taiwan University. It fills two lanes off Roosevelt Road on either side of Shuiyuan Market. Cheap single-portion snacks are the norm, several stalls are vegetarian, and it is calmer and easier to walk alone than the big tourist night markets.

How to order, step by step
- From Gongguan Station Exit 1, turn right along Roosevelt Road and turn right again into Lane 78
- Walk on to Lane 108, the second lane, past the back of Shuiyuan Market
- Order one item at a time - single portions are normal
- Most stalls are takeaway only, so step aside to eat
- Pay in cash and carry small notes
What to order solo: A scallion pancake with egg from Hsiung Chi (雄記蔥抓餅, No. 2, Lane 108, closed Sundays and Mondays), then walk about five minutes to Lan Jia (藍家割包, closed Mondays) for a braised pork gua bao. For a sit-down plate of fried rice before 20:00, try Long Ji (龍記炒燴, stall 32 inside Shuiyuan Market, closed Sundays and Mondays).
Best time to go alone: 17:00-19:00, Tuesday to Saturday. Several of the best-known stalls close on Mondays, and the scallion pancake stall also closes on Sundays.
