Maokong Gondola

貓空纜車 · show this name to taxi drivers

A 4 km cable car from Taipei Zoo up to the tea hills of Maokong, with views over the city and, on clear days, Taipei 101. You ride in small cabins, shared with strangers when it's busy, and it's the easiest way to reach Maokong's teahouses and trails on your own.

How to visit, step by step

  1. From Taipei Zoo MRT Station (BR01), walk about 350 m along Xinguang Road Section 2 to the gondola's Taipei Zoo Station
  2. Tap an EasyCard at the gate: the first ride of the day is NT$180, the second NT$120 and any more that day are free. Or buy a single ticket (NT$180) or a one-day pass (NT$300). Concession fares are for Taiwanese residents only
  3. Join the line for regular cabins or for the glass-floored Crystal Cabins (NT$50 extra per ride). Regular cabins take up to 8 people and Crystal Cabins 5, so at busy times you share with strangers. A cabin to yourself costs NT$600 extra per ride
  4. The ride to Maokong Station at the top takes about 25-30 minutes, with stops at Taipei Zoo South and Zhinan Temple. Getting off at a middle station and boarding again counts as another ride, and at either end you must exit and pay again to ride back
  5. No eating or drinking in the cabins except water. There are no lights in the cabins at night
  6. The gondola stops in strong wind, lightning, earthquakes and typhoons. Check the official site on the day and know a bus route down as a backup
  7. On the roof of Maokong Station, the Taipei Sky Green viewing deck opened in August 2026. Check signs in the station for when it's open
Don't miss: The ride up in the late afternoon for views over Taipei, then a teahouse or the tea fields near Maokong Station.
Best time to go alone: Weekday mornings have the shortest lines. Weekend afternoons can mean a long wait at Taipei Zoo Station.
