How to visit, step by step

  1. Enter from Nanhai Road (No. 53) or the Heping West Road or Bo'ai Road sides. MRT Xiaonanmen Exit 3 or 4 is closest. No ticket or booking is needed
  2. Walk the paths at your own pace. The themed plant display areas open roughly 08:30-17:00, later than the main paths
  3. The Qing-era Imperial Envoy Guest House (Qinchai Xingtai) was listed as temporarily closed when we checked on 19 October 2026, so plan to see it from outside
  4. Nanmending 323, a restored 1930s tea house by the lotus pond, is free but opens only Wednesday to Sunday, 09:30-16:30, in timed sessions. Queue at the door a few minutes before a session starts
  5. Free walk-up guided walks run on Saturdays and Sundays. The garden does not say they are in English, so expect Mandarin
  6. Bring mosquito repellent and water in warm months. Bikes and pets are not allowed
  7. For an indoor stop, the National Museum of History stands at the garden's Nanhai Road edge
Don't miss: The lotus pond and the shaded paths around it, plus the 1930s Nanmending 323 tea house if it is open that day. Lotus blooms vary by year, so don't count on flowers.
Best time to go alone: Early morning on a weekday, when it is cool and locals are out exercising. The plant display areas open from about 08:30.
