How to visit, step by step

  1. Go to No. 61, Sec. 1, Dihua Street. From Beimen (G13) or Daqiaotou (O12), allow 15-20 minutes on foot
  2. Entering and looking around is free. To worship, buy one offering set with incense at the counter. Prices are not published online, so ask first
  3. Ask the staff for the English leaflet or help. The temple says staff can explain the steps in English and Japanese
  4. The basic steps: light three incense sticks, face the burner to greet the Sky God, then pray at each altar inside, and finally put all three sticks in the single burner
  5. Leave paper money in the temple's collection box. It is burned off-site, not in front of the temple
  6. It is cramped inside, so wear your bag in front and step aside for people praying. A cup of tea may be offered outside
Don't miss: The matchmaker (Yue Lao) altar, even if you only watch how locals pray.
Best time to go alone: A weekday morning soon after 07:00. The Lunar New Year period and the City God's birthday festival in early summer are packed.
