A farming village in an old volcanic lake bed on Yangmingshan, with terraced fields that fill with white calla lilies in spring and hydrangeas in early summer. Outside those seasons it is a quiet place of fields and woods, so time your visit for the flowers.

How to visit, step by step
- Check the season first. In 2026 the calla lily season ran from mid-March to late April and the hydrangea season from late May to late June. Dates change every year
- Take bus S9 from MRT Beitou or bus 108 from the Yangmingshan bus terminal. Roads are packed and private cars face traffic controls on flower-season weekends, so the bus is the better choice
- Walking the village roads is free. In flower season most farms charge their own entry at the gate, sometimes redeemable for a drink or flowers, so check each farm's sign
- Most restaurants here serve free-range chicken and mountain vegetables as shared dishes for groups. On your own, eat before you come up or bring snacks
- Go in daylight and bring a rain jacket. Zhuzihu is known for mist and drizzle
Don't miss: Terraced fields of white calla lilies in spring, or blue and pink hydrangeas in early summer, with Mt. Qixing and Mt. Datun around you.
Best time to go alone: A weekday morning in flower season. Weekends in March, April and June are very crowded.
Getting there
MRT: No MRT nearby. Bus S9 (小9, Taiwan Tourist Shuttle) from MRT Beitou (R22) to the Zhuzihu (竹子湖) stop, or bus 108 from the Yangmingshan bus terminal to Zhuzihu Police Station (竹子湖派出所).
