Chengdu Starfruit Ice

A Ximending drink shop going back to the 1960s. It spent decades on Chengdu Road beside Ximen Station and now sits around the corner on Zhonghua Road. Starfruit is pickled with salt and sugar and served as a cold drink that is sweet, sour and a little salty, with pineapple and salted plum versions too. One cup costs little and is made for drinking on the go.

How to order, step by step
- Go to No. 144-1, Zhonghua Road Section 1, a short walk from Ximen Station. The old shop on Chengdu Road has closed, so ignore older maps that still show it there
- Choose starfruit, pineapple or salted plum, or a mixed cup, at the counter
- Pay in cash
- Take the cup with you and drink it as you walk around Ximending
What to order solo: A cup of starfruit ice, the house original, about NT$50 in 2025-2026. Pineapple is a milder choice if you are unsure about the salty taste. Check the posted price.
Best time to go alone: Any time after the 13:30 opening. It is most welcome on a hot afternoon or evening in Ximending, and it stays open until 22:30.
