San Liu Shi Ba (Tangyuan & Rice Cakes)

A family shop near Longshan Temple that has made rice cakes and tangyuan for about 80 years. Come for a bowl of hot red bean or peanut soup with chewy tangyuan, or grilled mochi rolled in sesame powder instead of the usual peanut. In summer it also serves an alkaline rice dumpling ice.

How to order, step by step
- Find No. 92, Sanshui Street, a few minutes from Longshan Temple Station and close to the Xinfu Market building
- Order one bowl of sweet soup with tangyuan, or a grilled mochi
- Pay in cash
- Eat inside, where there are seats on two floors, or buy traditional rice cakes at the front to take away
What to order solo: A bowl of red bean or peanut soup with tangyuan. The grilled mochi with sesame powder is the house twist. In summer, try the alkaline rice dumpling ice.
Best time to go alone: Mid-morning or afternoon, before or after Longshan Temple. It opens at 09:30, earlier than most dessert shops.
